“China Too Cool: Vernacualr Innovations and Aesthetic Discontinuity of China” is the Pratt Institute graduate Yijing Zhou’s interest and focus. She observed and investigated the status quo such as wallpapers of Chinese online blogs being used in interior decorations and the habit of drawing red dots on children’s forehead in photoshoots. Yijing’s zine is an essay illustrated with pictures, that discussed the origin of the “Too Cool” aesthetics and how it reflects the on-going urbanization process in China.
