I MIMI - POENKYU STICKER (YELLOW VERSION)
BOISMOU collaboration with I Mimi
sticker size 5.5x14cm
package size 7x15.5cm
"Poenkyu'' stickers involved images of I Mimi's artwork from his eponymous solo exhibition held at SHEEP Harajuku in Tokyo in 2023.
The title “Poenkyu" is derived from the 90s tile-match game "Puyo Puyo". The main character cries with the "Poenkyu" sound when the game is over. Mimi thinks it's so cute that he uses "Poenkyu" to name the paintings he drew with the sorrowful emotion "Even if it's sad, just try to live lovely".
I Mimi
Korean artist born in 1993. Graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Kongju University and MFA at the School of Seoul University of Science and Technology.
Mimi chooses painting as his own approach to strengthen the fragility and turn sadness into happiness. He wants to weaken the unjustified visual gender factors to rebel against the stereotyped sexism in colors by his creations.
For some people, it seems strange for adult male to express himself with the "girl taste". However, the elements such as pink color, kittens, fluffy dolls, rabbits "belong to girls only" is also a kind of aesthetic bias. Mimi is trying to break these social prejudices and freely express his taste preferences.
